Face Off, 2013
Honolulu Club, Taichung, Taiwan
100 name cards "Security guard, Huang Bo Qun" was distributed at the opening of exhibition 《Face Off》.
The Honolulu club, once the most popular club in Taichung city, has closed for decades because of the urban shift. In order to revive the area, artists who participated in the Face Off exhibition visited the old building and created works responding to the environment and the history of the building.
I found two stamps at the third floor entrance when visiting Honolulu Club. One of them is a name Bo-Qun Huang and the other one said "security guard". In Taiwan many people believe that a name represents the person and carries his/ her soul.
In this exhibition, I made 100 name cards with the two stamps I found in the abandoned club, distributed them in the exhibition opening while carrying the stamps in the pocket on my left chest.
After the exhibition, I returned the stamps along with the rest of the name cards to the place where I found them.
